What is the minimum theoretical aggregate payout percentage on a slot machine? The theoretical minimum is 0 percent, but nobody would ever play that machine--at least not for very long. The legal minimum is set by statute in each state. In Nevada, it is about 80%. In New Jersey, it is 83%. In general, though, slot paybacks don't fall much below 90%. Players don't like having their money eaten quickly by machines that are as tight as the law allows, so casinos tend to have higher paybacks on their slots than the legal minimum.
