How to Find Loose Double Diamond Machines

1 April 2004

Here's a tip for finding loose Double Diamond machines.

First, you have to know the inside information that makes it possible for us to find loose Double Diamond machines. The secret is that on a 3-coin Double Diamond machine, the machines that hit more frequently are also the looser machines.

So, how do we find the looser machines? We have to play them and compare the hit frequencies of the two machines. The one with the higher hit frequency is the looser machine.

Here's how I've done it. I decide how much I'm going to bet per spin, and that's usually one coin. Then I figure out how many slot club points I'll earn if I play 1,000 spins. I then load up the machine with credits and start to play. Each time I get a hit, I either make a mark on an index card or I click my hand-held counter once. I keep an eye on my slot club reader and when I've earned enough points for 1,000 spins, I make a note of the number of hits I got.

I then repeat that process at different machines. When I'm done, I check my notes to find the machine that gave me the most hits. That machine will be the one with the highest long-term payback.

In summary, play the same number of spins on different 3-coin Double Diamond machines. Count the number of hits you received on each machine. The machine that gave you the most hits is the loosest machine.

Send your slot and video poker questions to John Robison, Slot Expert, at slotexpert@comcast.net. Because of the volume of mail I receive, I regret that I can't send a reply to every question. Also be advised that it may take two or more months for your question to appear in my column.
